About

Rev Dave and the Sin Eaters - Clouds Like Buffalo

Album Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Rev. Dave Music is proud to announce the release of "Clouds Like Buffalo," the highly anticipated new album from Rev. Dave and the Sin Eaters.

Released on July 15th, 2025 "Clouds Like Buffalo" features a diversity of sounds within the Americana vein. Focussed on country music it also features sounds emanating from pop, New Orleans, and Rock and Roll. As a whole the album follows the contours of love lost and regained through a myriad of soundscapes.

The album's title track, "Clouds Like Buffalo," is the album's first single. This soulful, Americana-infused anthem sets the tone for an album that promises to be both introspective and uplifting.

The song features a stellar horn arrangement and performance by Mike Herriott which complements its poetic, gently metaphysical lyrics. The image of fluffy buffalo shaped clouds has within it a hint of a species that suffered mass extermination in the 19th century. The song moves from a sense of Edenic unity through suffering and finally to a hope for redemption. That those three dimensions are present in love is a central theme of the whole album.

In 2017, David Peddle of Corner Brook had the overwhelming sense that world events were taking a turn for the worse. He decided his only course of action was to create an album of driving, toe-tapping country-blues music. "There was kind of an ominous vibe in the air that has sort of increased," said Peddle. "I wondered if it was possible to capture that dark vibe."

Peddle's band is called Rev. Dave and the Sin Eaters, and includes Newfoundland west coast music veterans Dan Hiltz, Scott Sheppard, Paul Harris and Louis McDonald.

The name comes from their love of old-time American blues, country and gospel music, and is inspired by early blues artist Rev. Gary Davis.

A musician in N.L. uses his white privilege to send an anti-racism message in song

The horror of George Floyd's death in Minneapolis last month has inspired a Newfoundland musician to write a song. But penning the words that came to his mind made David Peddle so uncomfortable, he was initially reluctant to put it down on paper. Peddle said he felt ill-equipped as a white man in Canada to present a message calling out systemic racism, so he connected with someone who could ensure he was being sensitive to the issues he felt compelled to address.
